Empowering Photovoltaics with Intermediate-Band Chalcogenides: From Atoms to New Tailored Optoelectronic Materials

Welcome!

Dear visitor,

welcome to the official website of the project PhANTOMEmpowering Photovoltaics with Intermediate-Band Chalcogenides: From Atoms to New Tailored Optoelectronic Materials! Here you will find general information, latest news, media content and contact details related to this exciting project at the border between materials science and electronic engineering.
Funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research through the call Young Researchers – Seal of Excellence and implemented at Polytechnic of Turin (Italy), PhANTOM aims at demonstrating for the first time the possible realization of intermediate-band solar cells with efficiencies above the theoretical upper bound of ~30% limiting commercial devices. This will be accomplished by identifying suitable intermediate-band materials and by applying them into practical solar cell designs, starting from the atoms and building up to the device.
Thanks to its multiscale interdisciplinary nature, PhANTOM provides a unique opportunity to combine different disciplines, such as quantum chemistry, computational solid-state physics and optoelectronics, with the single purpose of providing a disruptive solution for the conversion of sunlight into clean energy.
If you have been reading up to this point, I cannot but thank you for your interest in this project! Please, come back soon for new content!

Sincerely,
Matteo Cagnoni
